Welcome!
We're JETAA Canberra, and we've been providing advice, guidance, support and friendship for past and present participants in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program since 1993.
We're involved in a range of formal and social activities for members, such as our famous o-hanami on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in Spring. We work closely with the Embassy of Japan in Canberra to select participants for the JET Program, and run a number of orientation activities for newly-selected JETs.
An important aim of JETAA Canberra is to promote closer friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and Australia. Our members participate in many events involving the Australian-Japanese community here in Canberra, and share their JET Program experience with prospective new JETs and other members of the community.
If you are a current JET, returning/returned JET to the Canberra region or would just like to join or know more about JETAA Canberra, please contact the President.

JETAA Committee meeting
This Sunday, 6 July 2008, there will be a JETAA Committee meeting from 3.00pm.

JETAA Trivia Night
This year's JETAA Australia-Japan Trivia Night will take place at P.J. O'Reilly's in Civic from 7.00pm on Monday, 21 July 2008.
Like the last couple of years, the questions will be on both Australia and Japan so teams with both Australian and Japanese players will be at an advantage. If you can't get a team of 8 together you can register as a single person or in small groups and we'll find you a team to join.
Places are limited and experience indicates that available places fill up fast. Please book early to confirm your place at this event. For bookings please contact: nicolelawes@yahoo.com
Language Exchange Partner Wanted
Mr Masaki Miyazaki, the Second Secretary for Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of Japan, is looking for a language exchange partner. He has intermediate English and is willing to teach Japanese at any level from beginner to advanced.
If you'd like to participate in language exchange with him, please e-mail Mr Miyazaki at: gorgous75@yahoo.co.jp
JETAA on Facebook
Love it or hate it, Facebook is a great tool for networking. We've recently created the Canberra JET Alumni Facebook group all our members. It has all the social tools for keeping in contact with other Canberra JETs. Use the discussion board to help plan any future Japan trips or share your favourite experiences. Share your photos from JETAA events with the community. Let us know of any Japan related events that may be coming up on the wall or just say Konnichiwa.
You'll need to join Facebook if you haven't already. Access the group here: Canberra JET Alumni - Facebook or Search Groups for Canberra JET Alumni.
Dendy Anime Festival
From 3-16 July 2008 Dendy cinemas will be holding an anime festival. View details at the Dendy website.
O-Shaberikai
The next O-Shaberikai will be on Wednesday, 30 July 2008 at the Holy Grail in Civic from about 5.30 pm onwards.
For those who don't know, the O-Shaberikai is a very informal monthly get-together where Japanese people staying in Canberra can meet Australians who have some interest in Japan. As it is informal, you're not bound by time constraints so turning up late or leaving early is not a problem at all.
A Message from our Webmaster
Hi! I'm Aler Locus, your friendly neighbourhood webmaster. I was an ALT on the JET Programme between 2003-2005 in Kochi-ken.
I hope you'll find the information and links on the Canberra JETAA site useful for your life back in Canberra and to keep you connected to things back in Japan . I'm always looking for new contributions and suggestions.
